Rwanda Consumer’s Rights Protection Organization (ADECOR) is a Civil Society Organisation established in 2008 with a Legal personality since 2009. Its establishment was based fundamental principles of Consumer rights. Since its creation, ADECOR has built networks and partnership with other organizations. In this angle, it is full member of Consumer International since 2013 and member of Africa Consumers dialogue since 2012. It has also established partnerships with other consumers’ organizations in many countries. At national level, ADECOR is member of Scaling up Nutrition Alliance in Rwanda (SUN Alliance Rwanda), Rwanda National Diary Platform (RNDP), Umbrella Association of Human Rights Organizations in Rwanda (CLADHO), Rwanda National Food Fortification Alliance (NFA).... In addition to those Civil Society Organizations platforms, ADECOR works in close collaboration with public and private institutions with the same objectives.V. VIII. ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE OF ADECOR


The General Assembly is the supreme organ. The board of Directors is responsible for the overall management of the organisation and discusses matters relating to programmes, administration, finance and logistics and ensures that members of the General Assembly have a role in the pursuit of ADECOR’s objectives. Different commissions composed by selected persons from members accordingly to their expertise and the areas in which ADECOR intervenes are put in place to collect information and handle issues in respective areas and propose solutions for appropriate actions. The executive secretariat team acts as Coordination Office and is responsible to handle the daily management of the organization. In addition to day-to-day activities, this executive secretariat plan and implements ADECOR’s projects and regularly reports to the Board of Directors. At provincial level, there is a provincial committee that coordinates districts committees serving as link between the central level of the organization and consumers through volunteers.

IX. MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS


Since its creation, ADECOR has played and continue to play its role by advocating for consumer’s rights promotion and protection. It played a big role in drafting different laws and policies among others the Food Safety and Food Control Policy, the law on Competition and Consumer’s Rights Protection (Enacted), food hygiene law "CODEX alimentarius" and the regulations on Food fortification in Rwanda. It has continued and continues to engage different stakeholders to ensure that Rwandans own these laws and policies. As member of many technical subsectors working groups, ADECOR advocated for Consumer’s rights through national technical committees and technical subsector working groups like the National Agriculture Technical Subsector Working Group under (Ministry of Agriculture and animal resources (MINAGRI); National Nutrition Technical Subsector Working Group under National Early Child Development Program (NECDP), Non Tariff Barriers and National Trade Facilitation Committee under Ministry of Trade and Industry (MINICOM); Food Safety and Control Steering Committee under Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority(Rwanda FDA) …. As permanent member of different technical committees in Rwanda Standards Board (RSB), ADECOR contributed to the elaboration of various standards. For the evidences creation ADECOR conducted many surveys and assessments on key areas related to the consumer’s rights such as prices, Food Safety and Control, Competition Policy and law implementation in Rwanda. For community capacity building and awareness, ADECOR has reached many people by conducting different awareness campaigns aiming at their education and building their capacity different areas such as consumer’s rights and responsibilities, nutrition and food safety, financial education, standards, environment protection and many others. It has also trained numerous people within the community as trainers and community facilitators in different. For regulations enforcement, regular inspections in the area of prices, services delivery and goods’ quality and safety in collaboration with other institutions such as Rwanda Utilities Regulation Authorities, Ministry of Health, Rwanda Development Board, Ministry of commerce and Industries, Rwanda Standards Board…. Moreover, ADECOR actively supported in the implementation of different projects related to consumer’s rights promotion in different areas.
